Families of PES (FPES)
Welcome to Families of Palisades Episcopal School (FPES). My name is Elana Griffing, and I am President of FPES. I look forward to an amazing year, and I am excited to see what we can accomplish together for our children!
What is FPES?
FPES is the PES solution for parent/teacher coordination and support. FPES is a unique organization in that 100 percent of funds raised benefit our children and teachers in the classroom. The Mission of FPES is to support the School’s philosophy, programs and activities for the benefit of all PES students. FPES facilitates communication and parent education, as well as encourages and coordinates volunteerism. FPES fosters a spirit of inclusion, partnership and cooperation among the entire School community.
Who are FPES members? You are! Every PES family is a member of FPES. We request dues of $40 per family (not per student) which help to fund all classroom celebrations, Teacher Appreciation Days, Back-to-School events and much more. FPES dues are due by August 30. You can make your check payable to FPES, or you can pay online at www.supportpes.org. We do not pay any dues to a national organization the way a typical PTA or PTO does.
How can I help? FPES needs volunteers! I know all of our families are very busy, and I am going to try hard to make it easy for every family to volunteer in some way. Research has shown that parents play a critical role in their children’s academic achievement. The relationship that parents have with the School is crucial, which is why the goal of FPES is to have 100 percent family involvement. Our volunteer sign-up form is included on the following pages, and there is something for everyone. Volunteer opportunities include helping with events, being a room parent, providing clerical assistance, helping with the Fall Festival or Christmas tree fundraiser, staffing the Book Fair and much more. Click here to access our complete list of volunteer opportunities. If you need help finding a way to volunteer that fits your schedule, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are the FPES meetings open to everyone? Yes! FPES holds monthly meetings, and we invite all families to attend. We are always looking for new ideas and input from all of our families. These meetings are publicized on the School’s calendar, through RenWeb, as well as the upcoming events section of The Gryphon weekly newsletter. Mark your calendars now!
What are the FPES Goals for 2013-2014?
During the 2013-2014 school year, FPES is raising funds for an activity bus, as well as new technology in the classrooms in the form of iPads and computers. Last year, FPES successfully raised money to put smart boards into each K – 8th grade classroom which is a great example of how we can make a difference!
We are all in for a very exciting year, and I encourage every family to get involved and take an active role in the FPES community.
