LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS:
Too many students failed to complete and/or submit assignments this week and several students were lacking attention and participation. Summer is close, but not yet here, I continue to remind them.
My theme for the remainder of the year is "FINISH!" I have stressed that the year is not over and we have plenty of work remaining; therefore, I expect all students to continue to apply themselves and perform at high levels as they are capable.
CAMPUS SAFETY – SIGN IN & PASSES
All parents need to sign in at the front desk and receive a visitor pass. Those of you needing to drop something off (lunch, homework folders, etc.) are required to sign in and leave the item at the front desk for delivery to your child’s classroom. If our front office volunteers do not know who you are they will ask prior to buzzing you in.
Algebra
Simple and Compound Inequalities; Sets and Set Notation; Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities; Unions & Intersections of Sets.
6th Grade
Algebra -- One-Step & Two-Step Linear and Non-Linear Equations and their graphs; Like Terms; Solving and Writing Equations; Determining Function Rules and Equations from Graphs.
5th Grade
Formulas; Volume; Percents-Decimals-Fractions; Percents Greater than 100; Discounts & Sale Price.
Classroom Management
To further challenge our upper middle school students with responsibility, I have instituted a "zero-tolerance" homework policy for the 7/8th grade, meaning that all homework is due on the due date to earn homework points. Any late homework, without extenuating circumstances or prior approval by me, receives zero homework points. Remember, homework is not graded for accuracy; only for attempted completion of all of it.

PES Gives Back...
As part of the PES mission, students are regularly engaged in school-wide and class organized service opportunities.
Matthew 25, the service oragnization at PES, will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual Pennies for Patients again in February. This event is in conjunction with the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society to raise money for research. We do this coin drive to raise money in honor of a former PES Family. Two years ago, 4 year old Hamilton Grant was diagnosed with Leukemia. He is still in treatment and his whole family is very dear to the PES family. The kickoff will be February 1st at 8:30 which marks the 2nd anniversary of his diagnosis. We will skype with Hamilton and his family and a representative from Pennies for Patients will come to further explain the cause and the details of collecting our pennies! Please encourage parents to attend this kickoff meeting! We want to convey to parents that this should be child driven in lieu of parents just writing checks. More details to follow...
Our students also enjoyed their amazing Gleaning adventure (7000 pounds of Pumpkin). The following is a link to photos taken by a volunteer: http://palisadesepiscopalgleaning.shutterfly.com/.
