Weekly Highlights:

Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful moms in our classroom!  We hope you enjoyed your nice relaxing bath this past weekend!  The children did a great job measuring volume in math this past week by preparing your mother's day bath salts.  They were so excited to make your special gift!  I know you also enjoyed their cards with all of the cute things they love about you!  We also got some great practice writing in cursive during SWR and coming up with all kinds of words that make the "th" sound.  In reading, we enjoyed all kinds of books about mothers and what makes them special!  This week will be packed with a lot of fun as well.  We can't wait to meet all of the children's special grandpersons this Friday!  Please make sure to read all of the details about our upcoming week below.

Reminders for the Week:

- Don't forget to send a snack and water bottle each day (make sure these are both labeled with your child's name) .

- Make sure to include napkins and utensils with your child's lunch.

- Don't forget to send in a rest time towel on Monday.

- Grandpersons' Day is on Friday, May 18th.  Remember:

* Drop of between 7:30 and 8:00 at the Palisades Country Club.

* Students should wear their formal Chapel uniforms and do not need to bring a bookbag, snack, or folder.

* Chapel will start at 8:00.  Please be on time.  Students will sit with their class and parents and grandpersons will sit in the audience.

* After Chapel we will ride the bus back to school and parents and grandpersons will drive back and meet us in the classroom.

* We will do a special activity in the classroom.  If you have more than one child you can rotate to the different classrooms.  If you will be going to an older child's classroom first please prepare your child for this because they can get worried when they don't see you right away.

* After the activity students may leave with their parents and grandpersons to go outside to the the reception, have their picture taken, and visit the book fair.

*Please let me know if your child will not be leaving with their grandperson.  Also, make sure you prepare your child that they will be staying while most of the other children will be going home.  Thank you!

- We will be taking a field trip on Tuesday, May 15th to Miller Farms to pick strawberries and enjoy strawberry smoothies.  Thank you to Mrs. Bouley and Mrs. Kneas for volunteering to help drive us there!  We will leave at 9:30 am and return around 11:15 or 11:30 am.  The children will be able to pick a quart of strawberries and the cost will be included in the field trip.  However, if you would like to go with us and pick your own quart of strawberries, the cost will be $6.00.  It would be helpful if you could bring cash to pay.  If you would still like to go you are more than welcome to come with us!  Please email me and let me know if you are interested!  This will be a great field trip to wrap up our year with and will coordinate perfectly with our study of plants.

- Just a friendly reminder that in accordance with our policy (as found in your handbook) you must go to the office and check in before coming to the classroom.  This is first off for the safety of our children so that we know who everyone in the building is and where they are.  Also it helps to to minimize classroom disruption.  We love visitors but it can be distracting when parents come in (even for a quick minute) and then leave again.

- Don't forget to review the events calendar under the parents tab on our website so that you can be aware of all upcoming events at the school.  Also, a school-wide communication email will be sent to you each Monday to tell you about all of the events for the week here at PES.  Please make sure to read it so you will know what is going on!

- We are still  participating in the Scholastc Book Clubs book ordering program.   Online ordering is super easy. Go to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs to get started.  Our classroom activation code is KDHLL.  Thank you!

PES Gives Back...

Our school is such a wonderful place to be with all of the service-oriented projects we incorporate into our curriculum throughout the year.  This allows the children to see what it means "to give back" to others who are in need.
- We are looking forward to our next service project which we will coordinate with our 4th grade book buddy friends to help our local Humane Society.  This project will tie into our study of Animals and their Habitats.  We look forward to sharing the details with you soon!

-  Don't forget our Waste Free Wednesdays program where we are GOING GREEN as we pack our lunches in re-usable containers with real silverware and cloth napkins.  This helps teach the children how we can take care of the world around us!

Sharing for the Week:  Tell n' Show ~  Something that begins with "ch"
Your child may pick anything from home that begins with "ch" this week that they would like to share with the class during morning meeting for "Tell and Show".  Please make sure the object is hidden in a bag with at least 3 clues written on the outside to help them describe the object to the class.  The schedule for sharing this week is below:

Calling all mystery readers!  We need a few more parents to volunteer their time on Wednesday afternoons from 2:20 pm to 2:35 pm.  It's easy!  All you have to do is bring 2 or 3 of your child's favorite books to read to the class.  We have 1 more quarter to go and would love to have all the parents come at least one time during the year if your schedule will allow you to.  Please email me today to schedule one Wednesday afternoon that will work for you!  Thank you!

Thank you!
